Karim Wade, the son of former President Abdoulaye Wade, arrived at the gendarmerie on Thursday morning at 10:20 a.m. He did not emerge again until 8:30 p.m., and refused to answer questions from reporters.
His father left office this spring after losing the presidential runoff election in a landslide, amid accusations that he and his son had robbed the country.
Karim Wade has long been the subject of accusations of embezzlement, especially after his father appointed him to head a "super ministry," giving him control over the key sectors of the Senegalese economy.
