The storm's maximum sustained winds early Tuesday have decreased to near 50 mph (85 kph) with additional weakening forecast.
In the meantime, the U.S. National Hurricane Center says swells generated by Fabio are spreading northward along the west coast of Mexico's Baja California peninsula and could also reach southern California. These swells could cause dangerous surf conditions and rip currents.
Fabio is centered about 675 miles (1,085 kilometers) west of the southern tip of Baja California and is moving north near 9 mph (15 kph).
