On Monday, President Omar al-Bashir announced austerity measures, noting that Sudan is no longer an oil exporter and must cut its spending. He also pointed to the expense of a conflict with South Sudan, which gained independence last year. The two countries are at odds over issues like oil and borders.
No major protests against the cuts were reported.
