Giant Foods Stores on Monday announced a record-breaking year during the grocery chain's annual fundraising drive for the Children's Miracle Network.
This year, $751,029 was raised for the network of children's hospitals during Giant's Candles for Kids in-store campaign, which was held Nov. 25 through Dec. 8. That's $164,401 more than the $586, 628 raised in 2011.
The 12 Giant stores in York County combined to raise $59,338:
---Giant on Pauline Drive in York Township raised the most with $6,720.
---Giant on Palomino Drive in Dover raised $6,600.
---Giant on Carlisle Road in West Manchester Township raised $5,948.
Giant has hosted the in-store campaign since 2004 and has fundraised for the Children's Miracle Network since 1996, raising more than $26 million during the last 16 years.
Those funds have been used to support seven regional Children's Miracle Network hospitals: Penn State Children's Hospital at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, Johns Hopkins Children's Center, Janet Weis Children's Hospital at Geisinger Health Systems in Danville, Pa., University of Virginia Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
