Dollar General is eyeing property in the Dover area.
The Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based discount retailer is seeking approvals and variances to move into the township, said Georgia Sprenkel, zoning officer.
A hearing to review the store's zoning application is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday before the Dover Township zoning hearing board at 2480 W. Canal Road.
The hearing is the first step in a lengthy process that involves approvals and potential subdivisions of property, Sprenkel said.
Dollar General has requested to build a 7,200-square-foot retail store at 4853 Carlisle Road, which is within the township's commercial district, she said.
If approved, it would be the first Dollar General in Dover and the 12th location in York County.
The discount retailer has 10,000 stores across 40 states, including 434 locations in Pennsylvania, according to the company website.
It earns $14.8 billion in sales annually, according to the website.
How many employees the company would hire was not immediately clear.
