When Justin Barger won Sunday's sprint-car feature at Susquehanna Speedway Park, he became the second first-year 410 sprint-car driver to score a win this season at an area track.

A few weeks ago, Manchester's Austin Hogue won a sprint-car feature at Lincoln.

Ironically, it was Hogue whom Barger passed to take the lead on Sunday evening at Susky.

Both drivers have previous experience racing limited sprint cars. Hogue was last year's 358 series overall champion in the area and moved into the 410 sprints this season.

Barger has won numerous races and a few titles with the 360 sprint series that races near his New York state home. This is Barger's first full season competing with the 410 sprints in this area, although he did get a little head start by racing a few area shows near the end of last season.

Long wait between Lincoln wins: When Phil Walter won the 358 sprint-car feature at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday evening, it marked his first 358 sprint win there.

It wasn't, however, his first win at Lincoln. That one came in a 410 sprint car, and the win this week was just two weeks shy of being 22 years after the first.

Walter drove the Jenkins and Martz No. 55 to a sprint-car win at Lincoln on June 27, 1992. He hasn't visited Lincoln's victory lane since. That's not to say he hasn't been busy since then. After racing Lincoln that season, Walter went back to racing closer to home. He won 30 sprint-car features at Clinton County, where he is the all-time win leader in that class.

When his home track at Selinsgrove switched to the 358 sprints a while back, Walter moved into those ranks. He's won eight times at Selinsgrove in the 358s.

When Selinsgrove switched to 360s this season, Walter planned to come back to racing 410s at Lincoln, but a crash on his first night out put the 410 car out of commission for a while. His team pulled out their trusty 358 sprinter and had come close to winning at Williams Grove a few weeks ago. Saturday was his second 358 start at Lincoln this season.

Weekend schedule: Williams Grove will again offer a two-race weekend. On Friday evening, the sprint cars headline the program, along with a championship race for the 358 sprints. The Saturday Series will feature the super sportsmen, limited-late models and street stocks.

Trailway also offers a two-race weekend. On Friday evening, the 358 sprints, Legends, limited stocks and street stocks compete. Saturday, the AMA Motorcycles invade.

At Lincoln on Saturday, the sprints and 358 sprints go in added-purse races, while the Legends cars will make up a previously rained-out feature and then have a full slate of racing as part of the regular show.

Port Royal offers the sprints, NDRL late models and econo late models on Saturday.

Selinsgrove's Saturday program is a regular show of 358/360 sprints, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners, while Hagerstown also offers a regular show of late models, late-model sportsmen, pure stocks, hobby stocks and mini stocks.

Susquehanna Speedway Park hosts the 305 sprints, limited-late models, street stocks, Xtreme stocks, road warriors and minivans on Saturday.

Speedweek: Pennsylvania Sprint Car Speedweek is fast approaching. It begins at Williams Grove on Friday, June 27, and ends on Sunday, July 6, at Selinsgrove. In between there is racing every day but Monday. Lincoln hosts the Kevin Gobrecht Memorial Race on the first Saturday, followed by Fred Rahmer's promotion at Path Valley on Sunday.

After Monday off, the sprints move to Grandview on Tuesday, Hagerstown on Wednesday, Port Royal on Thursday, back to the Grove on Friday for the Mitch Smith Memorial, Port again on Saturday and then the Jan Opperman Memorial on Sunday.

1980: Williams Grove opened this weekend in 1980, with Smokey Snellbaker scoring the win in the Lloyd's No. 56. For Snellbaker, it was the third in a row at the Grove, and fifth overall that season.

Saturday action found George Ferguson Jr. winning at Lincoln. It marked the fourth overall win of the season for Ferguson in his father's No. 2 racer. At Port Royal on Saturday, Keith Kauffman was in victory lane for the sixth time overall that season. Kauffman was still wheeling the familiar No. K33.

Sunday at Susquehanna, Van May scored his third win of the season in the Weldon Sterner No. 69. That race featured a tie for second between Manchester's Ed Zirkle and York's Gary Krout.

Steve Smith drove Harry Fletcher's No. 66 to his second All-Star win of the season that night at the Tri City Speedway in western Pennsylvania.
