The York College baseball team closed out its 2014 regular season with a doubleheader split with DeSales University on a sun-splashed Mother's Day afternoon at Jaquet Field.

The Bulldogs captured Game 1, 7-3, before the Spartans earned the split with an 11-9 win in the nightcap.

The Spartans close out the regular season with a mark of 29-14 while the Bulldogs end the campaign at 27-16. Both squads must now await the NCAA Division III Tournament selection announcement to see if they earn at-large bids to the tournament.

Senior Tyler Alexander picked up the win in relief for York. He allowed one run on two hits in 3.1 innings. He struck out four and walked one to improve to 3-1. Patrick Pitman earned the save. He came on with one out in the ninth inning to get the final two outs to preserve the win. Senior David Walker made his first start in more than three weeks. He had been dealing with an injury. He allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout in his 4.2-inning outing.

York's Colbe Herr made his final appearance at Jaquet Field a memorable one. He was 3-for-6 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Russ Patti and Scott Steffy each had two hits, an RBI and a run scored, while Andrew Hershey was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI. He also was hit by pitches twice, raising his team-leading total to 18. Brad Wenzel and J.J. Oleniacz each contributed two hits and a run scored for York.
