The York College baseball team defeated visiting Frostburg State, 13-6, on Wednesday afternoon to improve to 18-3 overall and 13-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

York clinched the regular-season CAC title with the win.

Since their 12-game win streak came to an end last week in a one-run conference loss at Mary Washington, the Spartans have started a new streak by winning three straight contests.

York also moved into the NCAA Division III Top-25 rankings Wednesday for the first time all season. The Spartans are ranked No. 24 in the latest National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association/D3baseball.com poll.

The four Spartans at the top of the batting order Wednesday — leadoff man Andrew Hershey, first baseman Brad Wenzel, catcher Colbe Herr and right fielder Stephen Miele — each had multiple hits, combining to go 11-for-17 with nine RBIs and 10 runs scored. Herr hit a three-run home run — his third homer of the year — to right field in the sixth inning.

Shortstop Colin Porter (2-for-5, two RBIs) and second baseman J.J. Oleniacz (2-for-4, two runs scored) also had multiple hits. York has scored 76 combined runs in the last six games and is averaging 9.6 runs a game on the season.
