Despite Aignee Freeland's best efforts, the York High graduate won't be competing in the Final Four of the NCAA Division II women's basketball tournament.
The 6-foot, 3-inch Freeland led Edinboro in scoring (18 points) and rebounding (13 rebounds) on Tuesday night, but the Fighting Scots still fell to Cal Poly Pomona, 79-61, in the D-II Elite Eight. She came into the game averaging 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.
Edinboro was playing in Erie, which is just 20 miles from Scots' campus.
Freeland finished 8-for-13 from the field (61.5 percent). She also had a steal, an assist and a block. She accomplished all that in just 28 minutes because of foul trouble.
Edinboro, which was ranked No. 25 in D-II, saw its 11-game winning streak end. The Scots finished 27-6. No. 18 Cal Poly Pomona improved to 26-6.
