Some former York County high school standouts will face off Monday night in the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball Tournament.
York High graduate Aignee Freeland is a member of the Edinboro team, while York Catholic grad Morgan Klunk and Red Lion grad Erica Maciejewski are on the Bloomsburg team.
The Fighting Scots and the Huskies will meet at 7 p.m. Monday in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Final at Glenville State University in Glenville, W.Va.
Edinboro beat the Charleston on Friday, 64-62, and followed that up with a 77-69 victory over Gannon to earn its spot in the finals. Bloomsburg, meanwhile, beat Virginia State, 75-67, and followed that with a 91-78 triumph over the host school.
Freeland, a 6-3 sophomore, had 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Charleston and eight points and two rebounds vs. Gannon. For the season, Freeland is averaging 14.2 points and 9.2 rebounds per game.
Edinboro is 26-5 overall and ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division II. Bloomsburg is 26-4 and ranked No. 14 in NCAA Division II.
Klunk is starter for Bloomsburg. She averages 7.1. points and 3.4 rebounds per game. She is a 5-9 freshman who scored nine combined points in Bloomsburg's two regional victories. Maciewjewski comes off the bench for Bloomsburg. She averages 4.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. Maciewjewski is a 5-10 sophomore who scored eight combined points in Bloomsburg's regional wins.
The Edinboro-Bloomsburg winner will advance to the Elite Eight on Tuesday, March 25, in Erie. Bloomsburg beat Edinboro earlier this season, 84-71.
