Saint Basil ended the Delone Catholic girls' basketball season for a second-straight year on Tuesday.
Basil captured a 53-43 triumph over the Squirettes at Coatesville High School in the second round of the PIAA Class AA playoffs.
The District 3-AA runner-up Squirettes fell to Basil in the same round a season ago, 47-40.
Delone's season ends at 21-6, while Basil, the District 1-AA champion, improved to 23-5. Basil will now move on to play District 12-AA champion Neumann-Goretti (27-0) in the state quarterfinals on Friday at a site and time to be determined.
Despite the loss, the Squirettes did have reason to celebrate. Their standout junior, Maddie Comly, went over the 1,000-point mark in her career. She is the 10th Squirette to accomplish that goal. She reached the milestone with a short jumper in the third quarter.
Comly led Delone with 19 points, and now has 1,010 for her career. Mary Gingrow added 12 for the Squirettes.
Delone fell behind 14-4 after one quarter and was forced into playing catch-up for the rest of the game.
