The York College men's lacrosse team earned a 9-5 non-conference win at Scranton on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans, ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division III and winners of four straight, improved to 4-1, while the Royals fell to 1-2.

In the win, junior All-American Tyler Hutson became the Spartans' all-time goal-scoring leader. He passed former standout Josh Gamble with his second goal of the game. Hutson now has 122 goals in 38 career games. He has 164 career points, which leaves him 11 short of tying Gamble for the career scoring record of 175. Gamble did his damage in 62 career games from 2008 to 2011.

Hutson finished his big day with three goals and three assists. Sophomore Andrew Gamble added four goals and one assist. Tyler Davis and Chris Varela each added a goal and an assist for York.

York goalie Caleb Abney notched his fourth win of the year. He played the first 55:17 of the game, notching five saves.

Women fall in lacrosse in meeting of top-10 teams: The York College women's lacrosse team dropped a 9-3 decision to visiting Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday in a battle of top-10 nationally ranked NCAA Division III squads.

The Diplomats, who are ranked fifth in the country, improved to 3-0. The Spartans, who are ranked ninth, fell to 2-1.

Sarah Castle, Jocelyn Hudson and Erica Mulford had York's goals. Melissa Ritchey had two assists. The three goals ties the lowest Spartan offensive output in the last six seasons. York's Ashley Smith notched 12 saves.

The Spartans will need to bounce back quickly. No. 20 Ithaca comes to York for a Saturday afternoon contest. First draw is set for noon at Kinsley Field.

Baseball team cruises: York College scored 11 unanswered runs in a four-inning stretch on its way to an 11-1 victory over Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The game, originally slated to start at noon, was pushed back to 3:30 p.m. due to rain in the area. York won its third straight to improve to 3-1 on the season. Wilkes is 2-2.

After taking a 5-0 lead through five innings, York exploded for six runs on six hits in the sixth, including Colin Porter's three-run double to up the advantage to 11-0. York managed 13 hits in the game, including five players with two hits each.

Porter (four RBIs, two hits, one run), Brad Wenzel (three hits, three RBIs, one run), Andrew Hershey (two hits, two runs), Stephen Miele (three hits two runs, one RBI) and J.J. Oleniacz (two hits, one run) led York's 15-hit attack.

Elliot Mortimer got the win on the mound with seven shutout innings. He allowed six hits, while striking out six and walking one.

Softball team loses pair: The York College softball team suffered a pair of defeats on Wednesday in North Myrtle Beach, S.C., losing to Malone, 17-13, and Lycoming, 4-3.

York fell to 4-6, while Malone improved to 5-1 and Lycoming moved to 4-2.

Jennifer Taff went the distance vs. Lycoming, allowing just one earned run. She struck out three and walked one. Carleigh Ruleman (four runs, three RBIs, two hits, homer) and Mackenzie Ewell (four hits, two RBIs, one run) led York's offense on the day.
