York College men's basketball forward Matt McNeely has been named the Spartan Athlete of the Week.
McNeely closed out his collegiate career in impressive fashion. The Spartan senior poured in a career-high 29 points in the Spartans' 86-82 season finale against Southern Virginia. McNeely was 8-for-9 from the floor and 13-for-14 from the free throw line. He also pulled in six rebounds in the win over the Knights.
Earlier in the week, McNeely tallied 10 points and eight rebounds in the last-second loss at Frostburg State.
For the week, McNeely averaged 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per game as he shot 86.7% (13-for-15) from the floor and 86.7% (13-for-15) from the free throw line.
York College swim teams honored: The York College women's swim squad finished third out of six teams at the Capital Athletic Conference with a point total of 444.
The third-place finish is the highest in school history.
Spartan head coach Erin Kurtz was named as one of the CAC Coaches of the Year as announced at the conclusion of the meet.
The York men's swim team also finished third in the CAC meet.
York's sophomore Kyle Walthall won the 200 breaststroke in a conference- and school-record time of 2:02.50. That is his second conference championship this year after winning the 100 breaststroke in a conference-, school- and pool-record time.
Walthall was named the Co-CAC Swimmer of the Year after earning the CAC Rookie-of-the-Year award last year. He is the second Spartan to earn the CAC Swimmer of the Year as Stephen Fulcher earned the award for the 2007-08 season.
