In a matchup of Penn State University Athletic Conference division leaders, the Penn State York men's basketball team pulled out a 77-73 win over visiting Penn State Wilkes-Barre on Thursday night to remain undefeated. The local Lions (14-0 overall, 8-0 PSUAC) stayed atop the PSUAC South Division with the win and will next prepare for Saturday's 3 p.m. home showdown against Penn State Mont Alto (13-1, 7-0), who sits in second place in the South Division behind York.
With the local Lions up 41-31 at intermission, Wilkes-Barre opened the second half by outscoring York 19-10 in the next seven minutes and 24 seconds of game action to get to 51-49 with 12:36 to play. York went on a 10-2 run from there to grow its lead to 61-51 and eventually hold on for the victory.
After missing York's last game, Red Lion Christian grad Logan Steckel scored a game-high 25 points in his return. Teammate Josh Jamison chipped in 14 points and center Ben Todd recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
WOMEN: The Penn State York women bounced back from Monday's 69-64 loss to Penn State Brandywine (7-5, 4-2) with an 83-56 victory over visiting Penn State Wilkes-Barre (5-9, 3-3) to improve to 8-4 and 5-2.
Delone Catholic grad Courtney Riggs poured in a game-high 25 points to go along with 10 rebounds for the local Lions. York Suburban grad Brittany Kint (12 points) and Christian School of York grads Molly York (14 points) and Hannah York (14 points) also finished in double-digit scoring.
York next hosts Penn State Mont Alto (5-7, 3-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
