Roughly three weeks into the 2013-14 wrestling season, we have already seen several local athletes take many first-place and plenty more take top-three finishes in various high school tournaments.

We've also seen enough wrestling to finally figure out who is competing in which weight class this season. Some have stayed at the same level as last season while most others understandably added some pounds to their growing frames over the last 10 months.

And with that, I finally feel comfortable enough in putting out this season's first edition of wrestling rankings for the top-three York-Adams League grapplers in all 14 weight classes.

It's certainly a talented bunch to choose from. There are 22 returning York-Adams League grapplers who competed in last season's District 3-AAA Tournament, while 26 other returners competed in districts at the Class AA level. From there, 11 returners competed in their respective PIAA tournaments, with seven finishing in the top eight and five finishing in the top five of their weight classes at states.

Season of change: The early rankings are mostly determined by how grapplers finished up in districts and states last season. They will change as teams and top wrestlers square off over the next month in league matches and in the following two months after that in postseason tournaments. The rankings will be adjusted accordingly based on those results.

Last year, of the 42 wrestlers (three each in the 14 weight classes) included in the season's first rankings, just 27 remained on the list at the end of the year.

Of course, Kennard-Dale senior phenom and Oklahoma State University recruit Chance Marsteller highlights the pack. In his final prep season, the undefeated three-time state and district champ has mostly wrestled at 182 pounds thus far, but is expected to go down to 170 pounds for the postseason. It's similar to what Marsteller did last season, when he competed around 170 pounds during the regular season before dropping down to 160 pounds when it came time to win district and state gold.

And it's no surprise defending Division I champ Spring Grove returns a league-high five District 3-AAA qualifiers. Put defending Division II champ Bermudian Springs in the same boat, with a league-high nine returning District 3-AA qualifiers. But there are still a bevy of other skilled local wrestlers to watch out for on the mat this winter.
