This isn't the way the York Revolution wanted to start the second-half of the Atlantic League season.
The Revs dropped to 0-3 in the second half with a 10-2 loss to the Bridgeport Bluefish on Independence Day afternoon at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.
The Revs suffered a series sweep against the Bluefish, who finished the first half in last place in the Liberty Division at 23-47. York finished the first half in the cellar in the Freedom Division at 36-34.
Bridgeport won the final two games of the series by a combined score of 22-4.York will look to rebound in the opener of a nine-game homestand on Friday night when they host the rival Lancaster Barnstormers.
The Revs find themselves in the same position that they did a year ago at 36-37 through 73 games, and winless in the second half. The Revs actually lost each of their first four games of the second half last season, before going on to put together their best half in franchise history.
Bridgeport pitching coach Pat Ahearne (1-1) made his fourth start in place of an injured Josh Butler, and kept the Revs off-balance all afternoon with an off-speed repertoire. The 43-year-old worked six innings to earn the win, allowing only a two-run double to left by Ruddy Yan in the sixth inning.
York starter Chris Cody (8-5) suffered the loss, charged with nine runs (five earned) in five innings. The rough outing comes after he had not allowed an earned run in either of his previous two starts.
The Revs concluded a season-long 11-game road trip at 3-8, having been held to just two runs in all three games in the sweep in Bridgeport. They've dropped nine of their last 12 overall, and have allowed 10 or more runs in six of those 12 games. The Revs have fallen a game under .500 for the first time since May 14, and suffered their first sweep against the Bluefish since August, 2010.
York's Rick Zagone (2-2, 4.28) gets the nod in Friday's opener against the Barnstormers at 6:30 p.m. It is Armed Forces Night at Sovereign Bank Stadium, featuring a game-worn Revolution camo jersey auction presented by BAE Systems and 105.7 The X, a camo Revolution cap giveaway presented by St. Onge, an appearance by Captain America and Wonder Woman, and a postgame Laser Show.
