York Catholic High School graduate Brittany Hicks enjoyed a career-best night on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough to earn her team a victory.
Hicks poured in 32 points, but her York College women's basketball team suffered a 76-67 Capital Athletic Conference loss to Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
Hicks piled up those points despite fouling out with just more than two minutes left in the game.
The Eagles have won 11 straight in the series and they have now locked up the second seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament. Mary Washington improved to 18-6 overall and 9-2 in the CAC, while the Spartans fell to 18-6 overall and 7-4 in the league.
Hicks, a junior forward, finished her career night 11-for-14 from the floor. She also went 9-for-10 from the free throw line and picked up 12 rebounds for her 14th double-double of the year.
Kristen Haley contributed 22 points for York on 9-of-17 shooting. The rest of the Spartan team, however, managed just 13 points.
Depth played a key role. Mary Washington's bench outscored York's bench, 33-3.
