Dover native Brooks Black has been selected to wrestle for the USA All-Star Team in the 39th annual Dapper Dan Classic in Pittsburgh in March.
Black, who is currently wrestling for Blair (N.J.) Academy in his senior season, was selected to compete at 285 pounds for the all-star team. Joining him will be Blair teammate Frank Mattiace (220 pounds).
Coined the "Rose Bowl" of high school wrestling, this year's Dapper Dan Classic consists of a 4 p.m. match between an all-star team from Virginia against an all-star team from western Pennsylvania (WPIAL). Following that will be a match between Black's USA All-Star team against a team of Pennsylvania all-stars.
The Classic will be held at the University of Pittsburgh's Fitzgerald Field House on March 17. It's unclear who Black will compete against, since the all-star teams for Pennsylvania and WPIAL will be named following the completion of the PIAA individual tournament on March 9.
Black, an Illinois University recruit, is currently ranked as the No. 2 heavyweight in the country in the latest intermatwrestle.com rankings. He's 20-0 on the season.
