The Northeastern Boys' Bid Volleyball Tournament is set for Saturday and Sunday at the York Expo Center's Toyota Arena.
More than 50 teams from Ohio, Virginia, Pennsylvania and New York will compete to earn an open bid to the 2013 USA Volleyball Junior National Championships in Reno, Nev.
The Tournament, which stared in 2006, is slated to bring approximately 530 players and 140 team staff, plus family and friends to York County, according to the York County Convention and Visitors Bureau Sport York program. The total number of event participants is estimated at approximately 1,000, which will bring an economic impact of $475,321 to the area, according to the YCCVB.
"We've been hosting this tournament in York for more than five years because of the great facilities and terrific partnerships with Sport York and the York County Convention and Visitors Bureau," said Barbara Eisenbeis, manager for events for USA Volleyball. "York County is centrally located for our participants, and the York Expo Center's facility is perfect for hosting volleyball events because of its open space."
The Northeastern Boys' Bid Tournament is one of 10 bid tournaments that hosts younger age divisions (14 and under, 16 and under) vying for open bids.
Admission to the event is free.
