York College senior point guard Julian Watson hit a runner in the lane with two seconds left in regulation to lift the Spartans to a 61-59 win over host Elizabethtown College on Monday night.
The win snaps a two-game Spartan skid as York improves to 7-11 overall.
With the game knotted at 28 at halftime, E-Town (5-11) later forged a seven-point lead with 12:02 remaining on a pair of free throws by Ben Cable (10 points), a West York grad.
York then went on a 10-2 run to take a 53-51 lead and later led 56-55 with 2:46 remaining after a bucket from Mike Mathews (eight points).
With the game tied with 6.8 seconds left, York's Jeremy Skoloda inbounded to Watson (15 points) inside half-court. Watson drove to the left of the lane, elevated and hit a shot that bounced on the back iron before dropping through to give York the go-ahead points.
The Blue Jays had a chance with two seconds left, but Cable's three-point attempt was off the mark at the buzzer.
Women: The York College women's squad placed three players in double figures as the Spartans rolled past McDaniel College, 63-45, in a non-conference contest in Westminster, Md., on Monday night.
After a slow start by both teams, the Spartans (14-4) embarked on a 21-4 run that covered over 12 minutes to take a 23-6 lead at the 7:50 mark of the first half. York led 36-13 at intermission.
The Spartans managed to push the lead to 30 on one of four three-pointers from Kelsey Murphy (13 points) with 3:45 left before McDaniel (7-10) closed the game on a 12-0 run.
York forward Kristen Haley (14 points, 13 rebounds) notched her fifth double-double of the season. Teammate Brittany Hicks, a York Catholic grad, was the third Spartan in double figures with 12 points to go along with six rebounds.
