York Revolution manager Andy Etchebarren and his issues with umpires continued Monday night at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

It had been less than four days since Etchebarren had last been ejected from a game by home plate umpire David Mills on Friday for arguing balls and strikes.

He didn't take long to voice his displeasure on Monday, this time with home plate umpire Pat McLaughlin in Game 1 of a three-game series against Southern Maryland.

Ten pitches and two walks into the game by York starter Jesus Sanchez, Revs' pitching coach Mark Mason was out at the mound chatting with Sanchez, when he heard somebody yell "you're gone."

It turned out to be McLaughlin, who turned to York's dugout and signaled toward Etchebarren,

Sanchez
who soon came out to argue with McLaughlin and then with first-base umpire Eric Diaz before leaving.

Everything continued to go downhill from there for York. Sanchez would issue a total of two singles, a grand slam homer to Southern Maryland's Brian Barton and a third walk before being pulled without getting an out. The left-hander, who threw just nine of his 25 pitches for strikes, would be credited with giving up six runs in his shortest outing of the season. The Blue Crabs put up two more runs before the inning was over.

The deficit proved to be too much for York, which lost 10-3 to Southern Maryland (23-21).

Sanchez released: Sanchez pulled his last straw with York with his poor start on Monday. Midway through the game, it was revealed that Etchebarren chatted with Sanchez back in the clubhouse and released the 37-year-old veteran.

Sanchez had been inconsistent all season for York. In his last start before Monday, he went just 12/3 innings and gave up two runs on five hits and two walks. He departs the Revs with 6.49 ERA in six starts and four relief appearances, walking 23 and striking out 13 in 261/3 innings.

Mason said left-hander Yunior Novoa will take Sanchez's spot in the rotation

Etchebarren
for now.

Ejection: Etchebarren was gone from the clubhouse by the time the game ended. And Mason said he wasn't sure why Etchebarren had been tossed in the first inning.

"I don't know. It's hard for me to say because I went out to the mound to talk to Sanchez. And while I was out at the mound, all I heard was somebody say 'You're gone.' So, I didn't hear anything other than that," Mason said.

Novoa came in to relieve Sanchez and gave up just two runs on six hits in four innings. Relievers Dumas Garcia, James Houser, Stephen Penney and Kris Regas combined to hold Southern Maryland to two runs in the final five innings.

After winning a season-best four games in a row last week, York (20-23) has now lost four of its last five games and fell 61/2 games back of the Lancaster Barnstormers (27-17) for first place in the Atlantic League Freedom Division.

Game notes: York outfielder Scott Grimes hit his second homer in as many as games with a solo shot in the bottom of the ninth. He is now tied with Matt Esquivel for the all-time record of homers hit at Sovereign Bank Stadium (21). .... York hosts Southern Maryland in Game 2 on Wednesday night. Right-hander Shawn Hill (1-0, 3.04 ERA) will face left-hander Hunter Jones, who will make his debut for the Blue Crabs.
