The York Revolution scored early and hung on late for a 7-6 Atlantic League victory over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs on Thursday evening in front of 4,223 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

Last-place York improved to 9-16 with the win. They moved within four games of first-place Lancaster (14-13) in the Freedom Division. The Barnstormers lost to Sugar Land, 9-0.

Corey Thurman (2-1) retired 14 of 16 batters at one point from the first through the end of the fifth, needing just 48 pitches in those four innings, to earn his second-straight win and the 40th of his Revs' career. His 40 Atlantic League wins tie him for 10th most in league history. The Revs are now 5-1 in Thurman's six starts.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, Ramon Castro launched his second homer of the season to get the Revs on the board.

James Shanks blasted a two-run shot to deep left-center an inning later, giving the Revs a 3-2 lead. Originally ruled to have bounced off the top of the fence and back in play for a double, the ruling was changed to a home run soon thereafter. The ball appeared to bounce on the other side of the fence and then bounce back in.

York erupted for four runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking a seemingly commanding 7-2 lead. After back-to-back singles by Michael Hernandez and Chris Nowak, newly-signed designated hitter Bobby Kielty smashed a sharp grounder to first base that was picked by Javier Colina, who made the throw to second for the fielder's choice. Shortstop Paco Figueroa's throw back to first was high, however, and Hernandez scored on the error to make it 4-2. Colina appeared to injure his shoulder on the throw and was forced to leave the game.

Shanks followed with a grounder to second for a fielder's choice, but Kielty's heads-up base running prevented what would have been an inning-ending double play, eventually leading to three more runs. As second baseman Chin Lung Hu lunged at Kielty for the tag, Kielty eluded his glove, forcing Hu to toss to second. That maneuver allowed Shanks to beat the relay to first, prolonging the inning. A walk to Danny Gonzalez would follow, ending the evening for starter Michael Schlact (0-2), who ended up charged with six runs in 32/3 innings.

Salvador Paniagua greeted reliever Jared Locke with a two-run double to right-center, and Brandon Haveman followed with an RBI single to right for his first hit after signing with York earlier in the day.

Thurman breezed through his easiest inning of the night after the big outburst, tossing a quick 1-2-3 fifth.

Brian Barton led off the sixth with a double, however, igniting a four-run inning for Southern Maryland, quickly climbing back within one.

Neither team scored the rest of the way, however. York's bullpen combined for three scoreless innings to close it out.

The Crabs mounted a threat in the ninth, but R.J. Rodriguez notched his fourth save, getting a fly out to right with runners at the corners to end it.

Adam Thomas and Stephen Penney also each pitched a scoreless inning of relief for York.

Castro went 3-for-3 to pace York's offense, reaching base all four times. Kielty, a former major leaguer, was 2-for-4 in his debut game, and Paniagua was 2-for-3.

York's Ryan Feierabend (2-1, 2.67) will face the Crabs' Deinys Suarez (0-1, 2.61) in Friday's game. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
