York Catholic knocked off York-Adams League Division I leader South Western, 12-11, in an exciting York-Adams League girls' lacrosse contest on Tuesday in Hanover.
The Lady Irish improved to 10-1 overall and 9-1 in Division II, while South Western fell to 10-2 overall and 8-2 in Division I. York Catholic sits just one game behind unbeaten Kennard-Dale (10-0) in the Division II standings.
Lindsay Ingram led the Irish with a game-high seven goals. Dana Amalfitano scored two goals for the Irish, while Sarah Gabriele scored one goal and added one assist.
For the Mustangs, Sydney Szparaga scored three goals and added three assists, while Mary Rebert and Katie Wherley each scored three goals.
OTHER GIRLS' LACROSSE
CUMBERLAND VALLEY 20, SPRING GROVE 7: The visiting Rockets (6-6 overall) received goals from Dempsey Murphy (two goals, assist), Shelby Walter (two goals, one assist), Logan Reese (two goals) and Carlie Musselman (goal, assist). Cumberland Valley had six players with multiple goals and improved to 12-1 overall.
BOYS' LACROSSE
SOUTH WESTERN 7, YORK CATHOLIC 5: At York Catholic, the Mustangs led 6-2 at the end of the third quarter and hung on for the York-Adams League cross-over victory. Rich Delea and Brad Szparaga each scored two goals for the Mustangs, while Cody Mai had one goal and one assist and Carnie Fryfogle added two assists. For the Irish, Mark Kelly collected two goals and one assist, while Peter Lijoi scored two goals.
