DALLASTOWN -- A common theme among most sports teams each season is the creation of a saying or idea that represents the team in some way.

For the Dallastown boys' lacrosse team this spring, the senior leadership of the Wildcats decided to borrow a saying made popular with men's lacrosse programs at the college level.

Written on the undershirt that hangs out the back of each player's jersey are the words "Get There."

What's the meaning behind the saying?

"It's just goals throughout the season," Dallastown head coach Christopher Andrews said. "Whatever it is, we want to get there. If it's a ground ball, we want to get there. If it's a man with the ball, we want to get there."

And if it's getting to a point where the Wildcats can knock off Red Lion, the defending York-Adams Division I champions, from the top spot in the division this year, they likely want to get there, too.

Dallastown took a good step in that direction on Tuesday afternoon. Playing on its home field, the Wildcats defeated Red Lion, 9-5, in a contest that was much closer than the final score.

With the victory, Dallastown (7-0 Division I, 7-0 overall) maintained its spotless record and remained atop Division I, and moved Red Lion (4-2, 4-4) two games back of first place in the division.

Red Lion took an early 1-0 lead just 2 minutes, 24 seconds into the game behind an unassisted goal from Austin States.

But the Wildcats answered with four straight goals of their own and later led 5-3 at intermission.

The Lions remained close into the fourth quarter, drawing to within 6-5 with just under eight minutes to play with a goal from Dominic Ruocco (goal, assist).

But Dallastown soon pulled away with three goals in the final seven minutes. Wildcats' junior Jake Mitchell scored his third goal with 4:43 to play and teammate Tanner Ierley added his third goal with 1:10 to play. Dallastown's Kyle Kunkowski also had a pair of goals.

"That's what we want to do so teams can't shut us completely down," Andrews said of the multiple scorers. "And that helps us a great deal having so many weapons."

Dallastown had 38 shots on goal to Red Lion's 33. Wildcats' goalie Trevor Zero collected 13 saves while Red Lion goalie Brooks Arnold had 16 saves.

Conroy: Dallastown senior Patrick Conroy, who scored one goal on Tuesday, has de-committed from playing at the University of Maryland next season, Andrews said.

Conroy is now considering two other schools and should make a decision on his future in the coming weeks, Andrews said.

OTHER BOYS' LACROSSE

SUSQUEHANNOCK 14, YORK SUBURBAN 8: At Glen Rock, the Warriors led 6-3 at the half and went on to capture the York-Adams Division II match. John Chamberlin led the Warriors with four goals and three assists. Zach Speights scored four goals and had one assist, while Thomas Nace added four goals. Phil Norris scored one goal and picked up three assists. For the Trojans, Kris Reinhold scored three goals, while Cam Sprenkle scored one goal and added three assists.

WEST YORK 15, NEW OXFORD 4: At West York, the Bulldogs clamped down on the Colonials, shutting them out in the third quarter and holding them to single goals in the second and fourth quarters. Klayton Garman put up five goals and two assists for the winners, and Hunter Heath (three goals, two assists), Tanner Gerace (two goals, three assists) and Seth Clauser (two goals, two assists) also had good games for West York.

CENTRAL 15, SOUTH WESTERN 10: At Hanover, Central fell behind, 4-0, in the first quarter, but then outscored the Mustangs, 15-6, the rest of the way. Nate Troupe racked up seven goals and two assists for the Panthers, and C.J. Belker and Ian Desenberg supplied three goals apiece. Desenberg also had two assists. Rich Delea delivered five goals for South Western.

KENNARD-DALE 10, YORK CATHOLIC 9: At Fawn Grove, the Rams won a marathon contest in four overtimes. K-D improved to 5-3 both overall and in York-Adams Division II. York Catholic fell to 1-5 overall and in the division. Ethan White had 18 saves for the Rams, while Jesse Schonbrunner had five goals. Peter Lijoi and Mark Kelly each had three goals for the Irish, while goalie Colby Stubbs made six saves.
