Walter and Anna Schweizer's 50th wedding anniversary is June 6.
However, they'll celebrate it a little early as one of the 104 couples who will be honored by the Harrisburg Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Sunday at Good Shepherd Church, 3455 Trindle Road in Camp Hill.
Couples: Diocesan Bishop Ronald W. Gainer will celebrate a Mass honoring and blessing couples observing their golden anniversaries this year. Eight of the couples are from York County.
About 800 people are expected to attend the annual event, the diocese announced.
"I think it's fantastic that (the diocese is) doing that," said Anna Schweizer, 74, who is married to Walter Schweizer, 76.
The Red Lion couple have three adult children and two grandchildren, and they are members of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in New Freedom.
The keys for having a successful, long-term marriage include taking time to get to know the person you're dating, not rushing into getting married and knowing how to resolve marital challenges, Anna Schweizer said.
"We just ironed everything out whenever anything happened," she added.
Enjoy: Couples also should have activities they enjoy doing together, said Karen Cytacki, 71, of Springettsbury Township.
She and her husband, Mitchell Cytacki, 77, observed their 50th anniversary April 4 and will be among the couples honored Sunday.
"I was really surprised when we got this invitation," Karen Cytacki said. "I think it's pretty great. We're looking forward to it."
The Cytackis have two adult children and a granddaughter and are members of St. Joseph Catholic Church, also in Springettsbury Township.
Besides participating in church activities and spending time with friends, Karen Cytacki said she and her husband enjoyed more than 26 years of square dancing together.
They participated in square dancing events around the United States and in Europe, including in Sweden, Finland, England and Belgium, Karen Cytacki said.
"When we were first married, we were young and worked, concerned with providing for the family and the household," she said. "When we got eight or nine years further into our marriage, we found interests that pulled us together."
