York Area Regional Police officers rescued more than a dozen wayward ducklings from a York Township storm drain on Thursday.
With the mother duck waiting nearby, police Sgt. Jeffry Dunbar climbed down a ladder from the department's emergency service truck and into a storm drain along Knob Hill Lane and plucked the ducklings to safety, police said in a news release.
All told, 13 ducks had fallen through a storm grate about noon and had to be rescued.
Several residents in the neighborhood saw the ducks trapped in the drain, police said.
After being pulled from the drain, the ducklings were reunited with their mother and the family waddled off.
Police say Lt. Toby Zech and Officer Andy Mallette also took part in the rescue.
