The 2014 winners of the Shipley Distinguished Achievement and Special Achievement awards have been announced.

The awards honor high school and college athletes from York and Adams counties for outstanding athletic accomplishments. The Special Achievement Awards are presented to athletes who have previously been presented with a Distinguished Achievement award and have continued to achieve at the highest level in their chosen sport. This year, 93 Shipley awards will be presented, the most that have ever been presented in any year.

SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

CENTRAL YORK

Lauren Moyer: The senior, who is now a freshman at the University of North Carolina, was selected to the United States Junior Women's Under-19 National Outdoor Field Hockey Team. She had previously been selected to two junior indoor national teams.

DELONE

Allie Mondorff: The senior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA All-State Girls' Volleyball Team for the second consecutive year.

Cambria Wierman: The junior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA All-State Girls' volleyball team for the second consecutive year.

Hannah Lawrence: The junior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA All-State Girls' volleyball team for the second consecutive year.

DOVER

Alayah Hall: The senior was selected to the 2013-14 Sports Writers Class AAAA All-State Girls' Basketball Second Team. This was her second consecutive all-state honor.

Bayleigh Hoffman: The senior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AAA Girls' All-State Volleyball Team for the third consecutive year.

FAIRFIELD

Isaiah Logue: The senior, a Liberty University verbal commitment, won his second PIAA Class AA golf championship, becoming the sixth player to win in back-to-back years.

KENNARD-DALE

Chance Marsteller: The Ram senior closed out his spectacular high school wrestling career by capturing his fourth consecutive PIAA state championship. This time it was the Class AAA 170-pound championship. He finished this season with a 41-0 record and closes out his high school career with a perfect 166-0 record.

NORTHEASTERN

Niki Price: The senior swimmer brought home her second consecutive gold medal by repeating as the PIAA Class AAA champion in the 100-yard butterfly.

WEST YORK

Baseball team: The team became 2013 PIAA Class AAA state champions for the second consecutive year following a 2-1 victory over Upper Moreland at Penn State.

GEORGIA

Hali Flickinger (Spring Grove): As a freshman, the Bulldog swimmer was named to the first team NCAA Scholar All-America list. She was also named a Division I swimming All-America honorable mention, while helping the Bulldogs win the 2013 NCAA Division I women's swimming national championship. As a sophomore, swimming in the 2014 NCAA Division I national championships, she finished sixth in the 200-yard butterfly to earn All-America status in that event.

JUNIATA

Paul Kuhn (Central York): The sophomore outside hitter was selected to the 2013 American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III All-America Second Team, and followed that by being named to the 2014 AVCA All-America First Team.

MORAVIAN

Micah Leonard (York High): The senior wrapped up her collegiate career by finishing second and earning All-America honors in the triple jump at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. It was the sixth All-America honor for the Greyhound, with a school-record distance of 40 feet, 11 inches.

YORK COLLEGE

Tim Hartung: The Spartan runner closed out his senior year with nine CAC titles during his three seasons. He is the first athlete in the 24-year history of the league to win Player of the Year honors in three different sports — cross country, outdoor track and indoor track. He earned Capital One Division III Academic All-America honors for men's track and cross country. He finished his college running career as a five-time All-American.

SHIPLEY AWARDS

BERMUDIAN

Tristan Sponseller: The senior wrestler captured the 195-pound gold medal at the 2014 PIAA Class AA Wrestling Championships, finishing with a record of 43-0 and a school-record 183 wins.

CENTRAL YORK

Max Haldeman: The junior attack scored 68 goals and assisted on 40 more for the York-Adams Division I Panthers. For his efforts he was selected as a 2013 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American. He led the Panthers to the York-Adams lacrosse championship.

Jay Stone: The senior track-and-field standout finished sixth in the 400-meter hurdles at the 2013 New Balance Outdoor Nationals. His time of 52.95 seconds placed him 12th in the United States and earned him All-America honors.

Eric Rishel: The Panthers' senior midfielder was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-State Team. He had 15 goals and 17 assists while leading his team to its first-ever District 3-AAA semifinal and PIAA Class AAA Tournament. He was selected the York-Adams Division I Co-Player of the year and finished his high school career with 40 goals and 41 assists.

Erin Dobbeck: The senior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AAA Girls' All-State Volleyball Team.

Kelsey Wisner: The third baseman was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Softball Second Team.

Taylor Rohrbaugh: The pitcher was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Softball Second Team.

DALLASTOWN

Samantha Hartman: The junior catcher was named to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Softball Second Team. She has recently earned an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, where she will continue her softball career. She has a perfect 4.0 grade-point average and attained a 1960 on her SAT exam.

Kayla Merriman: The first baseman was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Softball Second Team.

Amanda Jones: The shortstop was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Softball Second Team.

Matt Attig: The senior played on the Dallastown American Legion Post 605 baseball team during the past four summers, and capped his Legion career by earning three college scholarships on the local, state and national levels. He was named to the prestigious 2013 All-Academic Team, which is made up of Legion players from throughout the nation. He was selected captain of the nine-member team and earned a $5,000 college scholarship. He graduated from high school with a 3.85 grade-point average and is majoring in engineering at Penn State.

Wildcat swimming team: The following swimmers were named 2014 High School All-Americans.

200 medley relay: Noah Brockway, Mason Tate, Spencer Hill, Corey Stauffer.

200 freestyle relay: Trevor Hine, Corey Stauffer, Spencer Hill, Noah Brockway.

100 backstroke and 200 individual medley: Kacey Oberlander.

DELONE

Girls' volleyball team: The Squirettes avenged last year's loss to Fort LeBoeuf in the state title match by defeating the same team, 25-14, 15-25, 26-24, 18-25, 15-9, to capture the 2013 PIAA Class AA volleyball championship, capping off a 28-0 season.

Maddie Comley: The junior was selected to the 2013-14 Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class AA Girls' All-State Basketball Second Team, and was also named to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA Girls' All-State Volleyball Team.

Deanna Laughman: The third baseman was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AA All-State Softball First Team.

Shelbee Holcomb: The shortstop was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AA All-State Softball Second team.

DOVER

Grant Hoover: The junior outfielder was selected to the 2013 Class AAA Baseball All-State Second-Team. He was picked to the York-Adams Division II All-Star Team after hitting .441, with 14 runs scored, 30 hits and 11 RBIs.

Maxine Herman: The senior forward was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association All-State Girls' Soccer Team.

EASTERN YORK

Lauren Reichard: The junior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA Girls' All-State Volleyball Team. She was also selected as a shortstop to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAA All-State Softball Second Team.

Mariah Miller: The third baseman was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAA All-State Softball Second Team.

HANOVER

Ian Brown: The senior wrestler captured the 132-pound gold medal at the 2014 PIAA Class AA Wrestling Championships, finishing at 39-0.

LITTLESTOWN

Logan Mummert: The senior catcher was selected to the 2013 Class AAA Baseball All-State Second Team. He was a York-Adams Division III All-Star after hitting .404, with 18 runs scored and 15 RBIs. He helped Littlestown win the Division III championship.

NEW HOPE

Montrel Morgan: The sophomore was named to the 2013-14 Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class A Boys' All-State Basketball Second Team.

NEW OXFORD

Co-ed competitive spirit squad: In 2013, the team won the medium division in the first PIAA Competitive Spirit Championships. In 2014, in the newly created co-ed division, the team averaged 79.53 to defeat 15 schools and win its second consecutive state championship. The team will now advance to the Universal Cheerleaders Association Nationals in Florida.

Sara Croft: The shortstop was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Softball Second Team.

NORTHERN YORK

Girls' swimming team: Captured the team championship at the 2014 PIAA Class AA Swimming Championships.

Girls' 200 free relay: Captured the gold medal at the 2014 PIAA Class AA Swimming Championships.

Girls' 400 free relay: Captured the gold medal at the 2014 PIAA Class AA Swimming Championships.

Rebecca Luft: The sophomore, while swimming in the 2014 PIAA Class AA Swimming Championships, won a total of four gold medals: 100 butterfly, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay.

Sara Yunez: The senior goal keeper was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-State Girls' Soccer Team.

Courtney Keefer: The outfielder was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAA All-State Softball First Team.

Delaney Roman: The senior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA Girls' All-State Volleyball Team.

NORTHEASTERN

Boys' volleyball team: The team became 2013 PIAA Class AA state champions, following a 3-1 victory over Ambridge at Penn State.

Jesse Sargen: The senior outfielder was selected to the 2013 Class AAA Baseball All-State First Team. He was the York-Adams Division II Player of the Year, batting .525 with 32 hits, 31 runs scored, 17 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. He also boasted a 1.91 ERA as a pitcher.

Logan Neiman: The senior forward was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-State Girls Soccer Team.

RED LION

Scott Rissler: The Lions' junior goalkeeper was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-State Team. He was also selected to the York-Adams Division I All-Star Team.

Alexa Taylor: The outfielder was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Softball Second Team.

SOUTH WESTERN

Scott Hess: The senior midfielder was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association All-State Team. He was also selected York-Adams Division I Co-Player of the Year. He tallied 15 goals and 12 assists this past season, while setting the school record for career goals (34). He also recorded 40 career assists.

Erin Harman: The senior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AAA Girls' All-State Volleyball Team.

SPRING GROVE

Levi Krause: The senior third baseman was selected to the 2013 Class AAAA Baseball All-State First Team. He was the York-Adams Division I Player of the Year. He batted .397, scored 16 runs, drove in 17 runs and compiled a 4-2 record with a 1.43 ERA as a pitcher. He helped the Rockets to the Division I crown.

Nick Spangler: The junior middle infielder was selected to the 2013 Class AAAA Baseball All-State Second Team. He was a York-Adams Division I all-star after batting. 429 with 16 runs scored, 27 hits and 17 RBIs.

Haley Norton: The outfielder was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAAA All-State Softball First Team.

SUSQUEHANNOCK

Sammy Miller: The junior outfielder was selected to the 2013 Class AAA Baseball All-State Second team. He was the York-Adams Division III Player of the Year, batting .523 with 27 runs scored, 34 RBIs and 14 stolen bases. He also had a 2.16 ERA as a pitcher.

Summer Britcher: The senior became the first student from a York County school to reach the Winter Olympics by earning a spot on the U.S. Luge Team. At the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia, she recorded her fastest run of the games (50.909 seconds) in her final run of the women's singles luge competition, securing a 15th-place finish.

Abigail Bentz: The junior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AAA Girls' All-State Volleyball Team.

WEST YORK

Steve Wilson: The senior defender finished the season with 61 ground balls and was selected as a 2013 U.S. Lacrosse High School All-American. He will continue his career at Cabrini College.

Courtney Harnish: The freshman, while swimming in the 2014 PIAA Class AA Swimming Championships, won gold medals in both the 200 and 500 freestyle events, while setting new records in both events. She was named Swimmer of the Meet. She also swam in the 2014 YMCA Nationals Short Course event and won the 500 freestyle and broke a YMCA record in the process.

Kayla Michael: The sophomore infielder was named to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AAA All-State Softball Second Team.

YORK CATHOLIC

Carrie Fix: The pitcher was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association Class AA All-State Softball Second Team.

YORK SUBURBAN

Kayla Gibbs: The senior was selected to the 2013 Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA Girls' All-State Volleyball Team.

YORK YMCA AQUATICS

800 free relay team: At the 2013 USA Long Course Junior Nationals in Irvine, Calif., the team, consisting of Courtney Harnish, Niki Price, Emily Ilgenfritz and Meghan Small, swam a time of 8:10.13, crushing the previous record of 8:12.51 set by the North Baltimore Aquatic Club.

The following girls' relay teams each set new national records while competing at the 2013 Short Course YMCA National Championships in Greensboro, NC.

200 medley relay: Time 1:42.27. Kacey Oberlander (Dallastown), Meghan Small (Manchester Valley, Md., High School), Niki Price (Northeastern), Victoria Griffin (Delone Catholic).

IUP

Aniella Janosky (Dover): The freshman, while swimming in the 2014 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships, earned All-America recognition in three different events: Fifth in the 200-yard butterfly; 12th in the 100-yard butterfly and 16th in the 200-yard freestyle relay. In the butterfly events she set IUP freshman records.

Christina Janosky (Dover): The senior, while swimming in the 2014 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships, earned All-America recognition in three different events: Sixth in the 500-yard freestyle; 10th in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 16th in the 200-yard freestyle relay. She established IUP varsity records in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle.

KUTZTOWN

Erin Reynolds (Central York): The senior was named to the 2013 NCAA Division II Field Hockey All-America Second-Team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. She was a first-team selection as a freshman.

MESSIAH

Ricardo Plummer (York Suburban): The senior wrestler earned All-America designation by finishing fifth in the 174-pound class at the 2014 NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

PENN STATE

James English (Central York): The senior wrestler finished seventh in the 149-pound weight class, earned All-America recognition and was a key member of Penn State's fourth-straight NCAA Division I wrestling championship.

SHIPPENSBURG

Lucy Kauffman (Northern York): The junior was named to the 2013 NCAA Division II Field Hockey All-America Second-Team by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. She helped the 20-1 Raiders capture the NCAA Division II title. She is also a two-time NFHCA All-Academic selection.

Megan Lundy (Central York): The sophomore runner finished eighth in the 400 meters at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, earning All-America honors. She becomes the first woman in Shippensburg history to claim All-America honors in the 400 meters. She is a two-time defending PSAC indoor champion at 400 meters, and holds the school indoor record of 56.34 seconds.

WEST CHESTER

Brad Strathmeyer (West York): The sophomore earned All-America recognition in four different events at the 2014 NCAA Division II Swimming Championships: Third in the 800-yard freestyle; fourth in the 500-yard freestyle; 10th in the 1,000-yard freestyle and 13th in the 400-yard medley relay.

YORK COLLEGE

Aaron Beale: The senior men's soccer defender was named a 2013 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division III First Team All-American. In addition, he was also selected as a First Team All-American by d3soccer.com. He also received All-South Atlantic Region accolades. His sterling defensive play resulted in the Spartans accumulating a four-year record of 64-16-11 and a Capital Athletic Conference record of 24-2-4. During this time his team won four conference championships and made four NCAA Tournament appearances, with two trips to the Sweet 16.

Kyle Walthall: The sophomore, while swimming in the 2014 NCAA Division III National Championship meet, finished sixth in the 200 breaststroke consolation finals and seventh in the 100 breaststroke consolation finals, earning All-America designation in each event. He is the first Division III All-American in York College swimming history.

Brittany Hicks (York Catholic): The senior women's basketball standout has been named to the d3hoops.com and the Women's Basketball Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-America squads. She was named to the d3hoops Second Team, and was an honorable mention WBCA selection. She is the fourth Spartan to earn All-America honors for York College. She led the Capital Athletic Conference in scoring averaging (17.3), was first in free throws made, first in total rebounds and first in rebounds per game. Hicks finished her career with 1,589 points and 990 rebounds, averaging nine boards per game. She finished her career with a school-record 42 double-doubles, including 16 this season. She owns the school and conference record for made free throws with 530.

Spartan wrestling team: The team was recognized by the National Wrestling Coaches Association for its academic performance during the 2013-14 season and ranked 22nd in the nation with a team grade-point average of 3.281.

Adam Kritzer: The sophomore wrestler, a nursing major carrying a 3.50 grade-point average, was named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.

Ryan Flynn: The freshman wrestler, a mechanical engineering major carrying a 3.75 grade-point average, was named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
