An upcoming early childhood education event will give children some time to play while their families learn.
The third annual Love2Learn: A Family Fun Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Frank Theatres, 2067 Springwood Road in York Township.
The free event is being presented by Focus, the local United Way's early childhood education initiative, and by the York Area Association for the Education of Young Children, a volunteer -based organization that has an office at the United Way.
Event details: Love2Learn is aimed at children ages birth to 7. Local quality centers will bring parts of their learning centers to the event. They will present activities focusing on literacy, math, science, art, music and dramatic play, said Sara Bradley, director of education initiatives at the United Way.
"Children will get a quality early education experience, a hands-on day of play, which is what they need," she said. "We're hoping families come away with a better idea of what quality early education looks like."
When looking for a quality early education facility for their child, families should consider what the center offers through its academic-based activities, interactive learning and play-based environments and schedule flexibility to meet the child's needs, Bradley said.
Other activities at the Love2Learn event include face painting, musical instrument demonstrations, a bug exhibit and a special appearance by Downtown, the mascot for York Revolution baseball team.
Prizes: There will be games, door prizes and a coupon for two free games at local Suburban Bowlerama for the first 150 people to arrive. A Chipotle buy-one-get-one free gift card for the first 275 attendees.
Close to 250 people attend Love2Learn annually, Bradley said.
"The event is just a day for families to be with their kids in an enriching setting," she said.
