The Red Lion school board is looking for applicants to fill a seat vacated by member Linda Smith.

Smith served on the school board since 2001 and has submitted her resignation effective Jan. 31. She said she did not have the time to properly devote to the position, according to Business Manager Terry Robinson.

"She was a very dedicated board member," Robinson said.

The district is accepting applications from those interested in taking the seat. Smith represents Region 1, which means a replacement must live in Red Lion borough to be eligible. The individual also must have lived in Red Lion for at least a year prior to filling the position.

Robinson said the board plans to interview potential candidates at the school board meeting on Thursday, Feb. 6. The candidate chosen for the position will be appointed at the following meeting on Thursday, Feb. 20, Robinson said. The term will end in December 2015.

According to requirements by the district, applicants must also be at least 18 years old and should not hold an office in city, borough or township government. Applicants should also not be employed in any capacity by the school district.

Interested applicants should send a letter of interest to Scott Deisley, superintendent of the district. Letters of interest should be mailed to Deisley's attention at Red Lion Area School District, 696 Delta Road in Red Lion. Letters should be submitted no later than Friday, Jan. 31, for consideration.
