West York added a new police patrolman to its ranks and promoted another earlier this month.

Patrolman Korbin Spayd, 22, was officially sworn in during a council meeting on Jan. 6, according to the police department.

Spayd is a 2009 graduate of Wilson High School in West Lawn, Berks County. He also graduated from the Reading Police Academy in 2012 and from Alvernia University in 2013, police said.

Also during the meeting David Kahley was promoted to detective.

Kahley, a 2001 graduate of West York Area High School, has been in the department since 2005, police said.

During that time, he headed a number of investigations, including one into a theft ring allegedly operated out of the borough. More than 130 people were arrested in that case.

Kahley also serves with the York County QRT, a swat-style unit, providing technical support, police said.
