Northern York County Regional Police are advising residents to be on alert for a scam involving computer viruses after a possible one was reported to police.
Police say a Manchester Township resident received a call on Wednesday from a man who stated he's with a company that locates computer viruses and other problems.
The caller remotely accessed the resident's computer and stated a number of viruses were found and that he could fix the problem for $300. When the resident asked for a phone number to call back, the phone disconnected and two phone numbers that showed up on the resident's phone are no longer in service, police said.
Police advise residents not to allow unsolicited callers access to computers or personal information. These calls are almost always a scam, police said.
Anyone who may have fell victim of a scam should call 911.
