York County resident Jennifer Harrison has been honored with a 2013 "fraud-fighter award" by the Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority.

Harrison is a special agent in the insurance-fraud section of the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office.

Prior to that, she was a York City police officer for years.

Among her other accomplishments, she put in hours of work on an insurance-fraud case in Monroe County where two women ringleaders and seven of their relatives and friends preyed on ill and elderly clients to defraud insurers of more than $1 million, according to the authority.

The two women ended up being sentenced to significant prison terms and must pay more than $1 million in restitution, the authority said in a press release.

The state's Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority was created in 1994 by the Pennsylvania General Assembly to fight insurance fraud. For more information, visit www.helpstopfraud.org.
