York Suburban School District has had an outstanding academic and athletic record from its inception in 1957 through today. The homes in the district have maintained their value because of these outstanding attributes. It is a very attractive family community with great schools, high test scores, highly qualified teachers, good facilities and varied activities.

Some school board candidates favor closing schools, increasing class size, cutting staff and eliminating programs under the guise of lowering taxes. One of their targeted programs is aquatics.

I am retired from York Suburban after 41 years of teaching and coaching. I know a price tag cannot be placed on the value of learning to swim.

It is appalling to me that a school board candidate has proposed closing the pool at York Suburban and renting pool time at another facility. Should that happen, our aquatic service to the York Suburban community will end. What other classes and programs could be the next target? Electing the wrong candidates could start a declining trend for our school district.

To continue putting the educational needs of our children and community first, please go to the polls on Tuesday and ELECT Emily Bates, Lynne Leopold-Sharp, Ellen Freireich and Cathy Shaffer.
