The Nov. 5 election marks a crossroads for Springettsbury Township residents who have the option of voting for supervisor candidates aligned with "Operation Take Back Springettsbury Township" or a candidate who represents a different, independent direction -- Mark Swomley.
While "Take Back" candidates offer the refreshing prospect of bi-partisanship by pairing Democrat Larry Crumling and Republican Kathleen Phan, a potential conflict exists in their alliance with incumbent Supervisor Julie Landis, who has sued board members and the township in federal court.
As the board addresses this litigation, I believe that Supervisor Landis will rightfully recuse herself from related deliberations. If elected, to avoid the appearance of a conflict, Crumling and Phan may opt to do the same, leading to the lack of a quorum with only two board members remaining.
Mark Swomley has not been named in Landis' lawsuit and can act in the best interests of Springettsbury residents without conflicts. Mark will bring a fresh perspective and voice to the board through his volunteer experience with the township and business perspective as a senior project manager with the Hershey Co. that will serve Springetts' taxpayers.
Take the independent course of action and vote Mark Swomley for Springettsbury Township supervisor.
