HANOVER -- Kennard-Dale's Alyssa Miller and Sofia Alsamadi pulled off a surprise on the opening day of the York-Adams League Girls' Tennis Doubles Tournament.

Miller and Alsamadi, who were not seeded, scored a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Spring Grove's Haley Staub and Emma Hoffnagle in the Class AAA quarterfinals. Staub and Hoffnagle were seeded No. 2.

Miller and Alsamadi will take on the No. 3-seeded team of Dallastown's Emily Kistler and Angela Friedrich in one semifinal on Wednesday. The other semifinal will match the top-seeded team of Susquehannock's Katie Wagner and Chelsea Simmers against the No. 4-seeded team of Spring Grove's Michaela Taylor and Amanda Craver. Taylor and Craver outlasted York Suburban's Jessica Clancy and Erika Toman, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7), in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, in Class AA, form held as all four seeded teams advanced to the semifinals.

The top-seeded team of Biglerville's Carlee Brumgard and Jenna Glass will face the No. 3-seeded team, Delone Catholic's Alyssa Neudecker and Liz Dizor, in one semifinal. The other semifinal will feature two York Catholic teams: the No. 2 seeded duo of Sarah Koury and Catherine Vizzard against the No. 4-seeded duo of Maggie Javitt and Kathryn Thomas.

Play will begin at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at South Western High School. The championship matches will follow the semifinals.
