York County made a fantastic showing in the food competitions at the 2014 Pennsylvania Farm Show. Congratulations to all of the bakers who competed. Several of the recipes are available on the Food for Thought blog at ydtalk.com/food. The winners from York County are:

Mrs. Gibbles Old Fashioned Fudge Contest: Elizabeth Pokrivka of Seven Valleys, first place; Shelley Pokrivka of Seven Valleys, second place; and Belinda Myers of Dallastown, third place.

Incredible Egg Angel Food Cake Contest: Connie Shuff of York, first place.

Snickerdoodle Competition: Belinda Myers of Dallastown, first place.

Thumbprint Cookie Competition: Shelley Pokrivka of Seven Valleys, first place.

Sticky Bun Contest: Brenda Moore of Mount Wolf, third place; and Linda Shellenberger of York, fourth place.

Blue Ribbon Apple Pie Contest: Kelly Fitzpatrick, who won the qualifying York Fair competition, fourth place.

Restaurant Week York is nibbling ever closer. Plan to hit restaurants in downtown York City between Feb. 22 and March 1.

This year's event will offer $5 and $10 lunch deals as well as $20 and $30 three-course dinner deals, plus individual dessert, snack and beverage deals. The Shop and Dine Out event, coordinated with downtown retailers, will feature discounted beer and appetizer pairings.
