Superhero movies might dominate the box office every year, but the American Red Cross is looking for real local heroes -- the people you know who have made a difference in the community.
The York-Adams Chapter of the American Red Cross wants to tell the stories of local heroes and is accepting nominations for community heroes now through Friday, Aug. 24.
The winning heroes will be honored at the 10th Annual Heroes of York and Adams Counties celebration on Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Holiday Inn Holidome in York.
Heroes can be nominated in one of 10 catego-
ries, and one hero will be chosen for each: 911 Dispatch, adult good Samaritan, youth good Samaritan, person who aids or rescues an animal, aquatics, community impact, firefighter, law enforcement, medical and military.
To be eligible, heroes must live or work in York or Adams counties, or have performed the heroic act in York or Adams counties. The heroic acts should be ongoing or have occurred since Aug. 15, 2011.
Nomination forms can be obtained by calling 717-771-3553 or by emailing melinda.guise@redcross.org.
