Three performers with songs in the top 15 on Billboard's country singles chart will perform free shows at the York Fair in September.
Jana Kramer, Dustin Lynch and Thomas Rhett are among the singers Great Country 107.7 WGTY will bring to the Radio Stage at this year's York Fair.
"All three of those artists have a chance to have a long career," WGTY operations director Scott Donato said. "All three of them have a song that is currently in the top 15 and may reach the top of the charts by the time the York Fair arrives."
Those current hits include "Why Ya Wanna" from Kramer, "Cowboys and Angels" from Lynch and "Something to Do With My Hands" from Rhett.
"We book these acts well in advance of the show and hope for extended success and hope by the time the fair gets here a lot of these artists have peaked, at least with their first singles," Donato said.
Donato is also expecting a strong turnout on Sunday, Sept. 9, when former American Idol finalist Casey James performs a 6:30 p.m. show. Since finishing third on Idol two years ago, James has released a debut album and scored a hit singer with "Let's Don't Call It a Night."
"Plus he is a heartthrob, and the ladies seem to really like him," Donato said.
While the fair's grandstand features more established performers, Donato said WGTY tries to pluck some of the hottest new stars from Nashville and bring them to York to provide free entertainment at the Radio Stage.
"In almost every case you get to meet them after the show and spend a little of time with them as well," Donato said.
Last year, J.D. Hodges was supposed to open for Toby Keith on the grandstand, but the show got rained out. This year fairgoers can see Hodges on the Radio Stage, Donato said.
Two acts with local roots include Harrisburg-based country rock band Mountain Road, performing on Sept. 15 and Brittany Opperman, a singer from Gettysburg, who will perform on Sept. 9.
"Brittany is a young lady who really has a lot of talent and has a heck of a voice," said Donato. "She has written a lot of her own songs and I think people are really going to be wowed by her voice."
Admission to all shows at the Radio Stage is included with tickets to the York Fair.
