The York Country Day School's experience at a regional Lego and robotics competition was "wildly successful," according to Lisa Riker, the head of middle and upper schools.

One of the school's four teams, the Robopanthers, placed first out of 21 teams in the First Lego League's qualifying competition.

The team will continue on to another regional competition, held Feb. 1 at the University of Pennsylvania.

Riker said the Robopanthers has seven students in fourth through sixth grades, who will be using feedback from the contest in Exton to prepare for the upcoming competition.

The other three teams from the school also performed well at the competition, Riker said. Gear Hounds received the research award. The Gear Hounds, Lego Leaders and Techno Water placed in the top 10 for the robot games portion of the contest.
