The West York school board last week approved plans for the installation of a new $22,258 electronic scoreboard for the baseball field at Sunset Lane Park.

But the new scoreboard installation won't cost the district a dime.

That's because the West York Baseball Boosters contacted business leaders in York County to donate funds for the scoreboard.

Those donors include Kinsley Construction, Penn Waste and Rita's Italian Ice. As a result, each will have an advertising panel at the bottom of the board.

The new scoreboard, 12-feet high by 20-feet wide, features amber digital lights, the West York Bulldog logo and the text "2012 State Champions."

In fact, it was the team's 2012 state championship that prompted the initiative for a new scoreboard, district officials said.

West Manchester Township has offered to waive the permit fees and to assist with expediting the permit and inspection process, according to a letter from the township. Volunteers plan to install the scoreboard this spring.

The school district will be responsible for the electric bill resulting from the scoreboard's use.
