Dallastown High School graduate Julie Brown, a senior at Shippensburg University, has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career on Tuesday afternoon after a strong performance during Saturday's Navy All-Comers Invitational.

Among many highlights for Brown this past Saturday was a victory in the 50-yard freestyle, besting swimmers from NCAA Division I programs such as Seton Hall, Navy, Bucknell and Loyola.

Brown posted a NCAA 'B' cut and season-personal-record time of 23.57 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle. She is the reigning PSAC Champion in the event and ranks second on the season's conference charts heading into the PSAC Championships.

Brown also finished fifth on Saturday in the 100-yard breaststroke - an event she seldom swims - with a season personal record of 1:08.95 that puts her in the conference's top 20 for the event.

Also on Saturday, Brown swam on the 200-yard freestyle relay team that finished third in 1:38.85, beating Loyola, Seton Hall and Lafayette, and the 200-yard medley relay.

Brown will enter the PSAC Championships seeded second in the 50-yard freestyle, sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, sixth in the 100-yard butterfly, 12th in the 200-yard individual medley and 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke.

She is the first SU women's swimmer recognized with a PSAC weekly honor since Amy Fisher on Jan. 18, 2011.
