After netting four combined goals, including game-winners in both games last weekend, Shippensburg University junior Derrick Roy was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Athlete of the Week on Monday.
Roy is a Spring Grove High School graduate.
Roy netted a hat trick and an assist on Friday night in a 6-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown before scoring his second-straight game-winner and fourth of the season in the 83rd minute on Saturday night against Seton Hill that immediately answered a Griffins' equalizer and gave Shippensburg a 2-1 victory. The pair of wins allowed the Raiders (9-5-1, 6-3 PSAC) to clinch their first PSAC playoff berth since 2010.
The hat trick against the Mountain Cats was the first for a Raider in more than six years. Roy's seven points fell one short of tying the school single-game record of eight. The seven points were the most for a Raider in a single game since Sept. 28, 2004.
Roy now has 10 goals on the season, which puts him in a tie for third in the PSAC, while his 24 points rank third. His scoring prowess in 2013 marks the first double-digit goals season for a Raider since 2010.
The honor is the first of Roy's career and the first for a Raider in over two years.
