York College senior women's basketball players Brittany Hicks and Kristen Haley have been named the Spartan Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 10.

Hicks and Haley led the nationally ranked Spartans to a pair of Capital Athletic Conference wins coming off their first loss of the season the Saturday before. In the win over Wesley, Haley tallied a season-high 24 points, pulled down seven rebounds, blocked two shots and collected two steals in just 21 minutes of action. Haley was 9-for-13 from the field and cashed in six free throws in seven attempts. Hicks poured in 17 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for her 10th double-double of the year. The York Catholic High School graduate was 8-for-10 from the floor and 1-for-1 from the line, while she also had a pair of blocked shots in 27 minutes of work.

Against Marymount, Hicks led York with 24 points, six rebounds, three assists, a blocked shot and a steal in the win. Hicks was 7-for-15 from the floor, 1-for-3 from three and 9-for-10 from the line. In the win over the Saints, Hicks became the CAC's all-time leader in career free throws. She has now made 466 career free throws. Haley added 16 points, a team-high seven rebounds and one assist to the Spartan effort in 24 minutes of work. Haley was 7-for-13 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the line in the 18-point win over the Saints.

For the week, Hicks averaged 20.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game in the Spartans' two wins. She shot 60 percent from the floor and 90.9 percent from the foul line. Haley averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots. She shot 61 percent from the floor and 88.8 percent from the free throw line.

OTHER YORK COLLEGE NOTES

Miller honored by CAC: York College junior Jess Miller has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week following a record-breaking performance in the 5,000 meters at the Armory Collegiate Invitational in New York City last Friday. Miller crossed the finish line in 18 minutes, 19.38 seconds, surpassing her own school record by more than 25 seconds.

Basketball game times moved up Wednesday: Because of Wednesday's impending snow storm, the game times for Wednesday's York College basketball games at St. Mary's have been moved up. The women's game is now slated for a 4:30 p.m. start, followed by the men's game at approximately 6:30 p.m.
