The York College soccer teams each earned impressive victories on Wednesday afternoon.

The women's team had an offensive explosion to defeat conference foe St. Mary's College 4-0 in York.

The Spartans (6-3-1 overall) improved to 2-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference, while the Seahawks (2-7-2 overall) fell to 1-1 in the CAC.

Emily Cronise, Elexa Sherman, Jenn Lindsay and Kayla Kovalsky scored York's goals. Clare Chatham had two assists for the Spartans and now has eight assists for the season.

Melanie Glessner, Stevi Lukacz and Kate Lutte each saw action in goal for York and each recorded one save.

York outshot St. Mary's, 19-3.

The ninth-ranked York men's team used a big second half to hold off a talented Eastern University squad in St. Davids.

The Spartans improved to 9-1 overall. They've won five straight. The Eagles fell to 8-2.

York fell behind 1-0 in the first half, but rallied to tie it by halftime on a goal by Brendan Saberton. Jake Hoover and Austin Johnson added second-half scores for the Spartans. Tobi Iguade, Chris Gillespie and Daniel Baxter provided assists.

Junior Brad Schmidt earned the win in net, making two saves.

York held a 14-12 edge in total shots and a 5-4 margin in shots on goal. Eastern had an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.

VOLLEYBALL TEAM LOSES AGAIN: The York College women's volleyball team dropped its fourth-straight match on Wednesday when it fell to Mary Washington 3-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both teams in Fredericksburg, Va.

The Spartans fell to 12-8 overall, while the Eagles improved to 9-5 overall. The game scores were 25-23, 25-18, 25-15.

The Spartans got a team-high 10 kills from sophomore Alison Dorsey. Freshman Ijeoma Igwe contributed six kills to the Spartan attack. Senior Brittany Hicks, a York Catholic High School graduate, led the defense with seven digs. She also had four kills. Sophomore Allie Donahue had 18 assists and five digs for York.
