York College sophomore left-hander Josh Miller had a strong outing on the mound on Tuesday afternoon to lead the Spartan baseball team to a 5-3 come-from-behind win over Montclair State University at Jaquet Field.
The Spartans improved to 20-18, while the Red Hawks fell to 12-16-1.
Miller improved to 6-2. He threw 81/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits with two strikeouts and two walks. Mike Sarecky picked up his fifth save by pitching 2/3 of an inning.
York junior catcher Colbe Herr was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, including his 13th and 14th doubles of the year. Drew Frankenfield finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Dustin Worthman continued to close in on 200 career hits. He was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Worthman is now just one hit short of joining the 200-career hit club.

GOLF TEAM NINTH IN MESSIAH EVENT: The York College golf team finished ninth out of 17 teams at the Messiah College Falcons Classic at Blue Ridge Country Club. The Spartans finished with a 322 total. Stevenson won the tournament with 298 score. Stevenson's Will Ellis and Messiah's Austin Galaska tied for medalist honors with 1-over-par 73s. Messiah finished second as a team at 305, followed by Millersville at 307. York's top scorers were Kevin Long (76, tied for 10th), Travis Oot (78, tied for 20th), Ryan Wolbach (80, tied for 35th) and Eric Stauffer (88, tied for 65th). There were 88 players in the field.
SOFTBALL TEAM TRI UMPHS: The York College softball team beat visiting Wesley, 8-7, on Tuesday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference Tournament play-in game. York improved to 11-28, while Wesley dropped to 12-23. Sarah Harris (two hits, triple, three RBIs, run), Kayleen Bell (two hits, RBI, run), Hannah Hugel (two hits, two runs), Sara Thacker (two hits, run) and Vanessa Mendez (two hits, RBI) led York's 13-hit attack. Morgan Levine got the win, allowing three runs in 52/3 innings. York will now travel to No. 1 seed Salisbury for a first-round game at 10 a.m. Friday.
CAC HONORS MILLER: York College sophomore Jess Miller was named the Capital Athletic Conference Women's Track Co-Athlete of the Week after setting a new school record and finishing fifth overall in the 5,000-meter run at the Moravian Invitational. Miller shattered the school record by more than 20 seconds, crossing the finish line in 18 minutes, 26.38 seconds.
MEN'S TENNIS TEAM LOSES IN CAC SEMIFI NALS: The York College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision at Mary Washington on Tuesday in a Capital Athletic Tournament semifinal match. York fell to 12-10. Mary Washington, which is ranked No. 25 in NCAA Division III, improved to 13-10. York didn't win a set in the match.
