York Suburban High School graduate Avery Jones won individual medalist honors on Thursday at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Fall Golf Classic.

Jones is a sophomore for Albright College. He helped the Lions to a 314 total, good for second place out of 16 teams. Messiah won with a 304, while York College was fifth at 317.

Messiah's Matt Burkhart (74) was second to Jones, who shot an even-par 71 on the Hershey Country Club East Course.

Jones had three birdies, including two on the back nine (No. 11 and No. 13) to pull away. He won by three strokes despite a double-bogey on the par-3 16th. He had only one other bogey on the afternoon.

Kevin Long led York with a 76, good for a tie for sixth. York's other scorers were David Boslough and Ryan Wolbach, who tied for 17th at 79, and Tyler Keim, who fired an 83 to tie for 42nd.

BREWER'S HAT TRICK LEADS FIELD HOCKEY TEAM TO WIN: Junior Kailey Brewer scored a hat trick to help the York College women's field hockey team earn a 3-1 non conference win against Stevenson Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans improved to 6-4 and Stevenson fell to 6-7.

Brewer's hat trick was the first of her career and broke her single-game high record that previously stood at two goals.

York finished the game with a 42-14 advantage in shots and a 21-7 advantage in shots on goal. York had an 18-12 advantage in corners.

Susquehannock High School graduate Ashton Burk was credited with an assist. Freshman goalkeeper Abby Baker recorded four saves to get the win.

The Spartans return to action at 2 p.m. Saturday with a home game against Lynchburg, which is ranked No. 19 in NCAA Division III.
