Freshman midfielder Sarah Castle posted a career-high four goals Wednesday as the York College women's lacrosse team registered a 21-8 Capital Athletic Conference triumph over Marymount (Va.) in Arlington, Va.
The Spartans, ranked No. 13 in NCAA Division III, improved to 11-2 overall and 6-0 in the CAC, establishing a new program-high for regular-season conference wins. The Saints dropped to 3-7 overall and 2-3 in CAC action.
Senior Meaghan Doak also notched four goals for York and contributed an assist. Kim Wayson, who also added an assist, posted a trio of goals to increase her team-leading season total to 44 goals. She has now scored an impressive 161 goals over her career, owning the program's career record by 61 tallies. Only a junior, she also is atop York's all-time points record (212) and career assists mark (51).
Fellow junior Katie Vautier notched five draw controls for the Spartans while Karlie Dougherty posted three caused turnovers.
Kelsey Evans recorded the victory in the cage as she notched two saves.
OTHER YORK COLLEGE EVENTS
SPARTANS' BASEBALL TEAM LOSES: The York College baseball team had its three-game win streak snapped with a 7-3 non-conference loss to the Keystone College Giants in La Plume on Wednesday. The Giants improved to 14-4, while the Spartans fell to 11-14. Steve Tretter paced the Spartans with three hits and a run scored. Two of his three hits were doubles. He now has a team-leading 12 two-baggers. Jimmy King added two hits and a pair of RBIs for York. The Spartans stranded nine in the loss.
YORK WOMEN LOSE IN TENNIS: The York College women's tennis team fell 6-3 to host Goucher Wednesday afternoon in Towson, Md. The Spartans dropped to 4-7, while the Gophers improved to 10-5. Two of York's three points came via doubles victories. Megan McCullin and Emily Price combined to win No. 2 doubles, while Arcondia Vlahos and Nicole Olson won at No. 3 doubles. Price also won in singles.
