The Northern York County Historical and Preservation Society will pay tribute to local heroes at a World War II Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Dill's Tavern and Plantation, 227 N. Baltimore St., Dillsburg. The day begins with a number of displays, including reenactors and historians. A USO-style dance follows the exhibition beginning at 7 p.m. The Will Fisher Orchestra will peform big band hits of the 1940s. Guests should take a lawn chair and are invited to wear period clothing. The Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival kicked off Thursday, Aug. 14, with a lineup of legendary performers and up-and-coming artists at the Granite Hill Camping Resort, 3340 Fairfield Road, Gettysburg. "Queen of Bluegrass" Rhonda Vincent and her band, The Rage, perform at 1 p.m. Friday. Grammy-winning bluegrass legend The Del McCoury Band will takes the stage at 8:35 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are on sale for the final four performances of "The Rememberer," on stage at DreamWrights Youth and Family Theatre, 100 Carlisle Ave., York. Show times are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. "The Rememberer" tells the true story of a young Native American girl, Joyce Cheeka, and her mission to preserve the memories of her people. Tickets: $8-$12. Sports

The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will play host to its annual convention this weekend at the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds. There will be activities at the fairgrounds on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, including track time for the vintage racers on Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The EMMR will also have a "static" display of vintage racers at Williams Grove on Friday evening and a vintage race car exhibition at Lincoln on Saturday evening.

Williams Grove Speedway will hold a Twin 20s program for the sprint cars on Friday evening. The ARDC midgets will also be on the slate. Saturday, the Grove's Saturday Night Series includes the super sportsmen, limited-late models and street stocks.

The wingless midgets of ARDC make their second local stop of the weekend when they join the sprint cars at Lincoln on Saturday evening. It will also mark the last York County Racing Club Night of the season in the area.
