It might not have been Satan himself, but police are seeking an armed man who was wearing a Halloween mask when he attempted to rob a Newberry Township store Sunday, police say.

But instead of leaving J & A Shoppette with a bag full of money, the would-be robber instead left frustrated and empty handed, according to township police.

The man, who was wearing a devil-type mask, dark clothing and gloves, brandished a handgun as he demanded money from the clerk of the 3100 York Haven Road store about 9:45 p.m., according to township police.

The costumed man told the clerk to put money in a plastic bag but left the store appearing frustrated and without the money, police said.

The suspect is described as a younger male, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 and between 140 and 160 pounds, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (717) 854-5571.
