York's own whistle master will share the history and future of a local tradition with the public throughout the York Fair.

Don Ryan, who performs a Christmas concert every year on a factory whistle, will host an exhibit in Old Main from 4 to 8 p.m. during each day of the York Fair except Thursday, Sept. 12, according to a news release.

The York Factory Whistle Concert, which dates to 1889, has been traditionally performed from the New York Wire factory at 441 E. Market St. But the company announced in 2012 that it would close the York City plant.

Concert organizers have since found a new home for the whistle concert at the Metso Corporation, 240 Arch St.
